Description

A cheery young man, who, despite what his father says, stands strong in the face of adversity and strife. Though he seems naïve and childish at times, as the game moves on, the character can be seen to grow and mature as he learns about the true nature of Spira, and his Summoners mission in this strange new world.

Tidus' agility makes him the perfect choice for the swiftest of foes and, due to his blitzball skills (which you can make full use of as part of the Besaid Aurochs); he is one of three characters that can fight underwater.

Overdrive: Swordplay

Tidus executes devastating sword attacks against one or all enemies through his Overdrive. After choosing an Overdrive technique, watch the meter carefully and press the X-button when the cursor is in the middle of the bar. The strength of Tidus' Overdrive attack depends upon how much time remains on the timer. The more Tidus uses his Overdrives (successfully or not), the more techniques he will learn.

Overdrive Targets Countdown Description Attempts to Learn
Spiral CutOne enemy3 seconds
Tidus performs a series of elaborate spins and twists before landing a hit on the target.

Default
Slice and DiceRandom3 seconds
Tidus runs up to the enemy line, and deals six blows to a fiend that is randomly selected before each attack.

Perform 10 Overdrives
Energy RainAll enemies3 seconds
Again, Tidus runs up to the enemy line, but this time he leaps off one of the enemies, and once in the air, he launches a hail of energy in the enemies direction, causing heavy damage.

Perform 30 Overdrives
Blitz AceOne enemy2 seconds
Tidus attacks the selected enemy eight times before the counter appears. A blitzball is thrown to him by either Yuna, Lulu or Rikku depending on who has the higher affection level with Tidus (if said character is unavailable, eg, she's dead or can't be underwater, the ball appears from nowhere) and if you successfully completed the countdown, Tidus performs a Jecht Shot, heavily damaging the foe. If you failed, Tidus will miss the ball, and come crashing to the ground.

History

Tidus was born to Jecht and his wife seventeen years ago in the summoned city of Zanarkand. A pleasant childhood is probably not what Tidus lived through, often suffering neglect from his mother, and taunts from his father. From an early age, Tidus soon learnt that when Jecht was home, his mother would all but forget about him. Add to this the numerous taunts and insults he suffered from his father, Tidus soon began to develop a hatred for Jecht that would burn strong, and drive his passion to better his father at his own game, Blitzball.

However, blitzball would also be the reason for a dramatic change in his life. Ten years ago, Jecht went out to sea to train, and vanished. Shortly afterwards, Tidus met Auron, a lone warrior eager to fulfil a promise to a friend. Together they watched as Tidus' mother fell apart, a lovebird that had lost her mate. A year later, she died, a death caused by a broken heart as Tidus surmises years later.

Now alone except for the watchful eye of Auron, Tidus continued to grow, and found a skill for blitzball that some would say rivalled his fathers. One year before the game begins, Tidus makes his debut in the blitz sphere and soon rose to fame as the Zanarkand Abes Star Player, though all this time he constantly lives in his father shadow, and even up to the game where he intends to bring light to life, he is compared to Jecht.

Unfortunately, his plans are soon ruined by Sin's arrival, and the destruction of Zanarkand that ensues. While Zanarkand's populace fled in terror of the beast that had brought death to the idyllic paradise that was Zanarkand, Tidus, under the Auron's guidance, confronts Sin, and together, they are thrown into Spira, leaving behind the world that catered for Tidus' every dream, for one that catered for none.

Stranded, alone and confused, Tidus stumbled aimlessly amongst ruins, eventually finding sanctuary with a group of Al Bhed. This was short lived however as Sin returned, and cast him out once more into the seas near a much more lively community. Here Tidus found a purpose, and a hope, and travelled with Summoner Yuna to Luca. But in Luca, he found much more than just hope, he found his link back the world he knew, and a secret that would do little to lessen his hatred for Jecht. Here he was officially recruited as Yuna's Guardian, as Auron too offered his services to the new Summoner.

This is his story, a story where he is at times no more than a bystander, and others when he is something more. On his journey, he learns the truth about his existence. He develops greater maturity than he would ever have been able to back in his Zanarkand, and, come the end of the game, he is even willing to give his life for the world he knew nothing of.
