About Mathias

When I was designing Mathias' character, I didn't necessarily have a character to use as a base. I suppose you could say 'amnesic character that wants to recover his past', but that isn't absolutely true. Mathias does want to know what happened to him in his past life, and he it is one of his motivations, but it is not the subject of every conversation he has. He just wants to do what he thinks needs to be done. His philosophy of life is 'the strongest survive'. He is not quick to help someone from rebels if he doesn't believe that doing so will make them stronger, but he will stop the flow of a river to a town because then the town will learn to adapt, and thus, become stronger.

That's not to say he is evil however. He will do what's right, but he wants those that he is helping to become stronger, to not have to depend on others to continue their lives.

Mathias- The only thing that he can remember is his name, and how to wield a sword he found lying at his bedside. As he traveled, he eventually discovered an elf sorcerer named Sylvos. The boastful man agreed to let Mathias follow him only because he was in need of a guard as he traveled to the city of the mages, Malrosin. Apparently, Sylvos' master was slain in an ambush by a group of bandits, as per according to sorcerer laws, he was required to travel to Malrosin to be apprenticed to a new master.

Despite the dilemma of his amnesic memory, Mathias has excellent knowledge in the use of greatswords - which usually require years of training - and surviving in the wild. Mathias can't help but wonder exactly where he came from, but he's not one to make a huge deal out of it. The past doesn't necessary determine the now.
